Even though the new year is rapidly coming, several Social Security payments must be made before the year ends. December has already begun. Since Christmas is a time when people spend a lot of money, and every dollar helps to make ends meet, this is excellent news for all recipients and beneficiaries.
Knowing when your benefits will be paid is essential, particularly at this time of year, so you can budget your money and prevent running out before the holidays.
Social Security Payments in December:
There are many payment days each month. Every month, on the first, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is paid. This payment is sent earlier in the month to prevent delays for recipients when the first day falls on a weekend or national holiday. This guarantees they will always have sufficient funds to pay their expenses on time.
This approach was followed in the December SSI payment, which has already been issued: The payout was disbursed on November 29, this year’s Black Friday, because December 1 happened on a Sunday.
Although it will just be the January payment (which includes all of the new year’s increases), there will be an SSI payment in December.
The payment is made on December 31, the earliest day when banks are open, and the US Postal Service is in operation because January 1 is New Year’s Day and a national holiday.
The remaining payments are divided between individuals who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 and those who started receiving benefits after that date.
The payment date for those who started claiming before May 1997 is the third of every month, and the distribution schedule is subject to the same limitations for weekends and national holidays.
The criteria are more difficult for people claiming after May 1997, though, as your birthdate determines the payout date.
Generally speaking, beneficiaries who were born on the first to the tenth of the month will get their benefits on the second Wednesday of that month; those born on the eleventh to twentieth will get payouts on the third Wednesday; and those born on the twenty-first to thirty-first will get payments on the fourth one. These advantages are still subject to modification to the National Holiday date.
- Social Security benefits for those receiving benefits before May 1997 are paid on December 3.
- December 11: Social Security benefits for anyone born on or after May 1997 and between the first and tenth of any given month. Keep an eye out since beneficiaries will get this batch of payments later this week.
- December 18: Social Security benefits for beneficiaries after May 1997 and whose birthday falls between the eleventh and twentieth of any given month. There is still some time left because this payment will be made next week.
- December 24: Social Security benefits for recipients born after May 1997 between the 21st and the 31st of any given month. The 25th should be the day of the payment. However, it is Christmas Day, a national holiday. This indicates that the payment is made before the scheduled time to protect recipients from delays.
- December 31: January SSI payment.
