Election Refund: Who will Get a Stimulus Payment of $100?

The surplus money from the 111,839 active registered voters in Mesa County, Colorado, will be refunded to the residents.

The Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR), ratified by the electorate, includes this obligation. TABOR mandates the county to repay any surplus cash to taxpayers and restricts the increase of government revenue.

Mesa Collected about $11 Million:

Mesa County earned over $11 million in 2023, $492,270 more than the TABOR cap. A refund of $100 will be given to each active voter at least eighteen years old as of November 25, 2024.

On Monday, December 16, 2024, the county started mailing refund cheques.

“I believe it’s fantastic! “That’s incredible!” Cassidy Crowell, a Grand Junction resident, wrote on kkco11news.com.

According to another Grand Junction resident, Ben Lopez, it will always be positive when you put money back in the pockets of voters.

It should be mentioned that residents who are also taxpayers are not eligible for these rebates, which are only available to registered voters.

According to county authorities, this is the only feasible option to give the community its money back from the TABOR refund.

“This list is the best one we have to return the check,” Mesa County Commissioner for District 1 Cody Davis stated. “Neither a list of the residents nor statistics on state tax revenues are available to us. The Mesa County voter registration list is the finest one we have.

After collecting almost $11 million over the TABOR limit, the county received the monies for the reimbursements.

Voters decided to return that money to the community, and most already knew what they would do with it. Some plan to buy Christmas presents, while others save for their kids’ education.
