Authorities have detained a woman following an alleged auto break-in outside an Oakland Park home that resulted in her being shot and transported to the hospital.
Deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint of a shooting on Northwest 13th Terrace, near 49th Street, shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday. When deputies arrived at the home, they discovered 31-year-old Ruika Abdulrahman with a gunshot wound to her arm.
Deputies administered first assistance while Oakland Park Fire Rescue paramedics took her to a local hospital. Her injuries were not life-threatening. Back at the scene, CCTV indicated that a bullet had pierced the driver’s side glass of a white SUV parked in the driveway. Crime scene investigators spent most of Sunday morning photographing the SUV, laying out evidence markers, and exploring the blocked-off neighborhood. Rocko Kryns, an area homeowner, claimed he heard gunfire and was surprised by the disturbance in this calm neighborhood.
“At about 4 a.m., 4:30, somewhere around that time, I heard like a single gunshot, and I knew it was a gunshot,” he told me. “I simply heard it, and I know it wasn’t fireworks; it isn’t the Fourth of July, so I knew something was up. It was deafening, unlike any other sound. I was simply sitting there, wondering what was going on, and then, about five minutes later, I heard police cruisers. A preliminary investigation found that the incident was linked to the burglary, and Abdulrahman was arrested. As of late Sunday night, authorities had not revealed the accusations she is facing.
The homeowner was observed conversing with detectives earlier that day. People who reside nearby stated that the homeowner has never caused any problems. “It has been a good neighborhood. “I’ve been here for over 20 years, and I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Kryns. The Oakland Park District Crime Suppression Team and BSO Violent Crimes investigators are looking into the facts of this occurrence. They have not revealed if Abdulrahman attempted to break into the SUV.
