Deputies were dispatched to a home on Pine Island Place around 5 p.m. for complaints of an unresponsive man. When they arrived, they discovered a guy in his 60s lying dead in his yard.

Officials reported at least eight deaths as of Friday. A tornado struck the Spanish Lakes Country Club near Fort Pierce on the Atlantic Coast, killing five persons, according to police. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 79-year-old woman in Ormond Beach and a 54-year-old woman in Port Orange were killed when trees crashed into their homes. In Tampa, police said the body of a lady in her 70s was discovered Thursday morning beneath a huge tree branch. On Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis cautioned residents to remain vigilant and aware of potential threats. DeSantis cited incidents involving downed power wires and water.

“We are seeing hazards still there,” he told me. He advised people to exercise caution around standing water and to use generators safely. “You have to make the proper decisions and know that there are hazards out there,” he said. Milton made landfall Wednesday evening as a Category 3 hurricane, a barrier island with pristine sand beaches on the Gulf Coast.
