This Saturday commemorates one year since a Hialeah mother was savagely stabbed, allegedly by her 13-year-old son.
Derek Rosa is currently in a county jail awaiting trial on a first-degree murder accusation. He will be tried as an adult. A year ago, the 13-year-old confessed to Hialeah police that he used a kitchen knife to murder his mother, Irina García, 39. Lawyer Dayliset Rielo says, “This is quite delicate; it is an extreme, unfortunate case involving a child accused of first-degree murder against his mother.”We are working hard on this case and urge the prosecution to do the same, moving as swiftly as possible to conclude it.”
The 14-year-old allegedly insulted his mother before stabbing her over 40 times, including her neck. Before doing so, he looked online for the ideal place to stab someone and the most excellent knife for cutting bones.
The young man has spent the past year at the Metrowest Detention Center, where he spends long hours alone, apart from his family and friends who are fighting for his release. “We continue to be concerned that education is not what it should be; the hours are unconstitutional, and medical care is inadequate.” That has been our position since the beginning,” stated Rielo. The judge asks counsel to prepare for the trial as soon as possible. The trial is tentatively scheduled for the end of this year.
