According to the death certificate acquired by TMZ, the Roots star died of congestive heart failure on August 21 at the age of 84. The paper also claims that no autopsy was performed on his body, and he was cremated on August 30, nine days after his death. While the Good Times alum died in August, it wasn’t until October that his son, Kelly Christopher “K.C.” Amos, confirmed it.
“He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold…and he was loved the world over,” K.C. told Deadline on October 1. “Many fans regard him to be their television father. He led a good life. His legacy will live on through his tremendous performances in television and movies as an actor.”
The statement continued, “My father loved working as an actor throughout his entire life…most recently in Suits LA playing himself and our documentary on his life journey as an actor, America’s Dad.” “He was my father, greatest friend, and hero. Following the revelation, Shannon Amos, the actor’s daughter, revealed that she first learned of her father’s death after it was publicized in the media. “We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you,” she posted on Instagram on October 1, with a video of herself and her father.
“This should be a time of celebrating and remembering his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of feelings and uncertainty surrounding his passing.” “We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you,” she posted on Instagram on October 1, with a video of herself and her father. “This should be a time of celebrating and remembering his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of feelings and uncertainties surrounding his passing.”
