Police told news outlets that a Pennsylvania man who is charged with killing his kid claimed to have viewed religious videos for hours afterwards, which is what prompted him to dial 911.
At 8 p.m., East Union Township police received a call reporting gunfire at a Sheppton residence. The department stated in a news release on Saturday, September 28. Records obtained by WFMZ show that John F. Gustites, 67, was waiting for cops when they arrived, seated in a chair on the porch.
Gustites made the 911 call himself, thus according to the police, he knew they were coming. According to the station, police discovered the 42-year-old man’s son John A. Gustites’s death in a room on the second level of the home.
According to the police announcement, investigators discovered the person had passed sometime around 8 a.m., approximately 12 hours before 911 was contacted.
The Pennsylvania State Police was contacted by the department to help with the investigation. According to WBRE, John F. Gustites told state troopers that he woke up that morning to find his kid chasing a cat around the house. Soon after, the son reportedly sought the family car’s keys, and the two men fought over it until the father left the room, according to the police.
According to the station, he returned with a.357 magnum weapon, according to the police. It is alleged that John F. Gustites shot his son in the face as the latter reached for a screwdriver.
The 67-year-old claimed to have no memory of pulling the trigger. Still, he did tell troopers that he had spent the whole day watching “religious videos” following the murder and that’s what finally convinced him to call the police, according to WBRE.
According to court documents, Gustites was detained by state police and is accused of murder, aggravated assault, deliberately endangering another person, and simple assault. From Philadelphia, East Union Township is about 110 miles to the northwest.
