According to a statement from Emory police Chief Burt Buchtinec, the shooting at Emory Point, an apartment and retail complex next to the campus in DeKalb County, was reported to the department just after eight in the morning on Thursday.

When the police arrived, they discovered that two workers of a business connected to Emory had engaged in a solitary altercation inside a restaurant, during which at least one gun had been fired. Twenty minutes after the suspect departed the area, everyone was given the all-clear.

Buchtinec declared, “This individual is no longer permitted on Emory’s campuses or in any Emory facilities.”

According to the investigators, the suspect went to fetch his pistol from his car during the argument, came back inside the kitchen, and attempted to shoot the victim but missed. After threatening a different coworker with the pistol, he left in a silver Chevrolet Malibu from 2021.

The chief said, “The Emory Police Department is honored to provide services to this community, and we will continue to make every effort to keep everyone secure.”
