After being robbed at knifepoint in Hialeah, the victim of an armed carjacking claims to live in constant fear.
It occurred at the Victoria petrol station located at 385 E Hialeah Drive on 29 July at approximately 6:42 p.m. José Carlos Martínez Hernández, a 19-year-old suspect, appeared in court on Friday. His custody was mandated without bond.
Marianela Ojeda claims that after leaving work and pulling into a petrol station on Hialeah Drive, a guy forced her to exit her car after threatening her with a knife.
“I left work and I went to pump gas… after I pumped gas and was sitting in the car and was going to close my door, he said, ‘No, don’t close. What you have to do is get down,’ and he put a knife to me here,” Ojeda said, motioning to her neck.
She claimed to recall her shaking. She claimed she was too frozen to even contact 911 when the carjacker pulled her out and allowed her to take her phone and pocketbook before stealing the car.
“I told myself to let him take the car before I lost my life when I saw he was going to cut me,” Ojeda recalled.
According to the victim, he even drove against traffic as he headed north.
Authorities discovered the vehicle in a West Palm Beach intersection two hours later. They alleged there was a knife inside that was used to threaten the victim.
When her automobile was returned to her a few days later, she showed NBC6 the remaining damage, which included scratches and what she thought to be smoke and marijuana residue on the vehicle.
That mental damage, though, is severe.
“The fear I have is terrible. Wherever I go, you see that I’m scared,” she said.
