A home daycare provider in Kansas is charged with striking her foster child so severely that he sustained bruises and burning him in a hot bath.
Authorities reported that Ija Monae Hall, 29, is accused of child abuse after the boy was burned in the second degree last week. The Wichita Eagle said that she was taken into custody on Monday at the Child Advocacy Centre.
Officials stated that on September 5, the incident occurred at Hall’s home creche, His Loving Hands Home Childcare.
A Kansas Department of Health and Environment Emergency Order of Suspension revealed information regarding the case.
According to the document, the boy was brought that day to the burn centre of a hospital with superficial second-degree burns on his feet, genitalia, buttocks, and thighs, and profound second-degree burns on his lower extremities.
Hall is accused of giving law enforcement and medical personnel at the hospital “inconsistent statements as to the cause of the injuries.”
The two children belonging to Hall were transferred to a children’s home and placed under police protective care the next day.
The workers there observed that the kids needed baths. According to the paper, one child had bruises on his legs and chest and had lost teeth. The report stated that the second youngster had a minor bruise on his heel, red markings on his back, neck, shoulder, and knee, and a small cut on his face.
Days later, in a follow-up interview with police, Hall acknowledged that he had forced one of them to sit in a hot bathtub, which had resulted in burns, and that he had also smacked one of them on the back, causing bruising.
Hall’s licence to run a family child care home was granted in June, but the Kansas Department of Children and Families (DCF) asked for an emergency order to revoke it. According to the paper, the licence suspension was given right away because of how serious the situation was.
According to KWCH, a local CBS affiliate, she was released from custody after posting bond on Friday.
