According to officials, a convicted sex offender who had just been released from prison attempted to sexually abuse a college student in South Carolina, but a good samaritan stopped him.
According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Darrell Scott Brooks, 57, is charged with a plethora of offences, including kidnapping, grand larceny, and assault with the intent to commit criminal sexual conduct. According to deputies, Brooks approached the Clemson University student for a ride late on Tuesday at an off-campus apartment building, claiming that he was employed there and that his car had “broken down”.
Brooks allegedly forced her to pull into a church parking lot as she was driving the man towards college, where he attacked her with a “folding razor blade knife” and pinned her down. While passing by, a kind person heard the woman calling for assistance. With the nice Samarian’s aid, the woman managed to get away. After that, Brooks is said to have stolen the woman’s car and driven off.
Brooks fled from Oconee County Sheriff’s Office deputies as they attempted to execute a traffic check, and they later witnessed the crash in the Seneca area, according to police. He was subsequently brought to the Oconee County Detention Facility. Clemson University officials keep in touch with the student to ensure she has the tools she needs as she heals.
Police did not provide any other information.
Deputies declared, “It is imperative to preserve the integrity of this investigation to bring this victim justice.”
Brooks was “just released from a heavy sentencing in the spring,” according to the sheriff’s office. Brooks is on the South Carolina registry as a sexual offender. It demonstrates that in November 2003, he was found guilty of first-degree criminal sexual behaviour. According to the Post & Courier, he sexually assaulted, threatened to kill, and held a woman captive for fifteen hours during the event.
