Big jackpots were awarded in Monday night’s Powerball drawing to five Pennsylvania-sold tickets.
To win $50,000, four players had to match four of the five winning numbers in addition to the Powerball number. A player won $100,000 by matching four of the five winning numbers, the Powerball number, and by purchasing Power Play.
Mega Millions Jackpot Soars to $1.12 Billion
However, next up is the Mega Millions jackpot, which will be paid out on Tuesday night and is anticipated to be worth roughly $1.12 billion.
Although no one has won the jackpot since December 8, 2023, players are still trying to take home the eighth-largest reward in US lottery history. Thirty consecutive draws have failed to select a jackpot winner.
This coming Wednesday night will see the drawing of the Powerball jackpot, estimated to be worth $865 million. There have been 36 drawings with no winner since New Year’s Day, since nobody has been able to collect that award either.
The extended lack of jackpots in both games is most definitely not a coincidence. The games specifically employ long odds to generate massive jackpots, thereby drawing in a large number of players and money.

Comparing Mega Millions and Powerball Odds and Prizes
The projected odds of winning Mega Millions are one in 302.6 million, while the odds of winning Powerball are one in 292.2 million.
The $1.12 billion Mega Millions prize will go to a single winner who choose to take an annuity over a thirty-year period. The winner would get $537.5 million if they decided to take their prize as cash. Such earnings would be subject to federal taxes, and prizes from lotteries may also be subject to state taxes.
There are 45 states that participate in the Mega Millions lottery, in addition to the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands.
These states play in the Powerball lottery along with Washington, the District of Columbia, the US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
