The first tragic event of its kind in two decades occurred in rural California when a mountain lion assault killed one guy and seriously injured his brother’s face.
The victims, brothers who were 21 and 18 years old, were looking for shed antlers when they ventured into a secluded area of Georgetown, which is 50 miles west of Sacramento. The 18-year-old reported the attack and his brother’s separation to 911 on Saturday at 1:13 pm.
Tragic Discovery
After racing to the location, emergency personnel arrived after about twenty minutes. They started looking for the older sibling after discovering the younger brother had facial damage.
Sadly, they found the deceased 21-year-old next to a mountain lion.
After intervening and scaring the lion with gunfire, deputies secured the scene. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials later apprehended and killed the animal. There will be more investigation, which will include a DNA test and a health check on the lion.
Attacks by mountain lions are extremely uncommon; in California, the last known deadly encounter was in 2004. Less than fifty verified attacks on people have occurred throughout the state since 1890, with only six of those attacks ending in fatalities.
