Massachusetts Man Arrested for Alleged Child Rape at Migrant Shelter Hotel in Rockland

The tranquil ambiance of Rockland, Massachusetts was shattered with news of a harrowing incident that unfolded at the Comfort Inn on Hingham Street. 

Authorities confirmed the arrest of Cory B. Alvarez, under suspicion of committing a heinous act  the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl at the hotel premises.

District Attorney Takes Swift Action

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office wasted no time in addressing the alarming occurrence, revealing that Alvarez stands accused of aggravated rape of a child. 

A judge in Hingham District Court remanded him in detention without bond despite his not guilty plea, pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for March 22. The circumstances surrounding this case only serve to heighten its disquieting nature. 

The Comfort Inn, where the alleged assault took place, doubles as a migrant shelter, housing families under a state and federal program. Prosecutors highlighted Alvarez’s residence at the hotel, sparking questions about the association between the accused and the victim within the context of the migrant housing initiative.

Rockland police swiftly responded to the distress call from the hotel on Wednesday evening, finding the victim who was subsequently taken to South Shore Hospital for medical attention. Alvarez was promptly apprehended thereafter.

The gravity of the situation is compounded by the victim’s testimony, alleging that she was lured into Alvarez’s room under the guise of technological assistance, only to endure a traumatic ordeal. Despite her protests, the assault persisted, leaving an indelible scar on her psyche.

This incident comes at a time when Massachusetts is grappling with the strain on its shelter system due to an influx of migrants. 

The state government’s recent legislative efforts aimed at bolstering the system with additional funding underscore the urgency of the situation. With shelters operating at full capacity and hundreds more languishing on waiting lists, the need for systemic reforms is glaringly evident.
