During an eviction at a home in Independence, Missouri, about an hour’s drive from Kansas City, a shooting incident on Thursday resulted in the unfortunate deaths of a police officer and a court official.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed the devastating news, shedding light on the grim aftermath of the incident.
Tragic Altercation
During a press conference held Thursday night, Justin Ewing of the Missouri State Highway Patrol revealed that a total of four individuals were shot in the altercation – three officers from the Independence Police Department and one civil process server from the Jackson County Circuit Court, Missouri..
The fallen heroes were identified as Independence Police Officer Cody Allen and court employee Drexel Mack, their lives tragically cut short in the line of duty. The two other officers who sustained injuries are currently undergoing recovery, as confirmed by the police chief.
The chaotic scene unfolded around 1:09 p.m. local time when initial calls reported that a civil process server from the Jackson County Circuit Court had been shot at the residence, according to Ewing. Although several other process servers were present at the scene, no officers accompanied them at that time.

Missouri Highway Patrol Supports Independence Police
Following a distress call for immediate assistance, officers from the Missouri Independence Police Department swiftly responded, only to be met with a barrage of gunfire, Ewing recounted.
Amidst the chaos, a male suspect was apprehended and subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, confirming the swift action taken by law enforcement in response to the harrowing situation.
Earlier reports from the Independence Police Department had indicated that two officers were transported from the scene with gunshot wounds, further highlighting the grave nature of the incident.
Missouri Governor Mike Parson expressed his condolences and solidarity as events unfolded, affirming his prayers for the injured officers and all those involved in the protection of the community.
“Teresa and I are praying for the @IndepMoPolice officers involved and all who work to protect us,” Parson stated, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
