Ohio Woman Accused of Foster Son’s Suffocation Given $4M Bail

Pammy Maye, 48, of Columbus, Ohio, made an unsettling court appearance on Thursday. She is accused of murder, kidnapping, and endangering the welfare of a child in relation to the terrible suffocation death of her 5-year-old foster son, Darnell Taylor.

The judge wasted no time in setting bail at a staggering $4 million for Maye, reflecting the severity of the allegations against her.

$4 Million for Maye in Foster Son’s Murder Case

During the brief court hearing, Maye remained silent, betraying no visible emotion as the charges against her were read out. 

The grim details surrounding Darnell Taylor’s demise have sent shockwaves through the community and left many questioning the circumstances that led to such a tragic outcome.

Darnell Taylor’s lifeless body was discovered in a sewer drain on February 16th, sending law enforcement officials on a frantic search for answers. 

The investigation took a disturbing turn when it was revealed that Maye had informed her husband of the child’s death just days prior, before abruptly leaving their home while he was on the line with a 911 dispatcher.

Ohio Amber Alert: Maye Apprehended in Cleveland Suburb

This prompted an immediate Amber Alert for Maye and the child, ultimately leading to Maye’s apprehension the following day in Brooklyn, a suburb of Cleveland, approximately 150 miles away from Columbus, Ohio.

Upon her apprehension, Maye was found wandering in a nightgown, offering investigators crucial information regarding the whereabouts of Darnell’s body. 

However, despite her cooperation with authorities, no motive for the heinous crime has been disclosed thus far. Maye had been serving as Darnell’s foster mother since May 2023, adding another layer of tragedy to an already heartbreaking situation. 

The news of Darnell’s death and Maye’s subsequent arrest have undoubtedly rocked both his biological family and the broader community. During the court proceedings, Assistant Franklin County Prosecutor Tyler McCoy shed light on Maye’s troubled mental health history, revealing that she had previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Furthermore, McCoy highlighted Maye’s past tendencies towards possessive and controlling behavior, painting a troubling picture of the woman now at the center of a harrowing criminal case.

As the legal process unfolds, the community grapples with the devastating loss of a young life and seeks solace in the pursuit of justice for Darnell Taylor. 

Maye’s bail, set at $4 million, serves as a stark reminder of the gravity of the charges against her and the profound impact of her alleged actions on all those affected.
