Disney announced exciting news for fans of the beloved animated film “Moana” as a sequel, titled “Moana 2,” is set to hit theaters on November 27th.
The revelation was made by Bob Iger on CNBC ahead of Disney’s fiscal first quarter earnings report.
Moana’s Journey Continues
Originally planned as a TV series, the overwhelming popularity of “Moana” led Disney to opt for a full-fledged cinematic sequel. “Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise, and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when ‘Moana 2’ comes to theaters this November,” Iger expressed.
‘Moana 2’ promises to take audiences on a thrilling new adventure with Moana, Maui, and a fresh crew of unlikely seafarers.
In the sequel, Moana receives an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, propelling her into the far seas of Oceania and uncharted waters, where she must confront unprecedented challenges.
Directed by Dave Derrick Jr., the film will feature music from a talented team including Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, who contributed to the first film’s memorable soundtrack.

Disney Announces ‘Moana 2’ Sequel
The original “Moana” was a massive success for Disney, grossing over $680 million at the box office and accumulating over 1 billion hours streamed on Disney+ since its release.
Additionally, last April, Dwayne Johnson announced plans for a separate live-action remake of the film during a Disney shareholders meeting, expressing his honor to bring Moana’s story to life on the big screen.
While Auli’i Cravalho, the original voice of Moana, will not return for the live-action adaptation, she remains involved as an executive producer. In an Instagram post last year, Cravalho emphasized the importance of accurate casting to authentically represent the characters and their stories.
With anticipation building for both “Moana 2” and the live-action remake, fans of the adventurous heroine can look forward to embarking on new journeys and experiencing the magic of Oceania once again.
