Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion Found in California, Search for 5 Crew Members On

A missing military helicopter was located in Southern California early Wednesday morning, but the search continues for five Marines who were aboard, according to a statement from the US Marine Corps.

Tuesday night, after leaving Creech Air Force Base, which is close to Las Vegas, the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar was reached. It was headed for Miramar, which is in the San Diego region.

Search Continues for Missing Marines

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the Civil Air Patrol were called in by the Marines to aid in the search after the report. Rescue efforts were launched without delay, even though the atmospheric river storm that was impacting the area presented difficulties.

The sheriff’s department responded to the call at 1:50 a.m. and dispatched a helicopter for the search. However, adverse weather conditions hindered the helicopter’s access to the area. Consequently, ground teams equipped with off-road vehicles were deployed to navigate the rugged terrain.

Throughout the night, search efforts persisted, with teams scouring the designated area in the hopes of locating the missing aircraft and its occupants. Despite the challenges posed by the stormy weather, search teams remained determined and vigilant in their efforts to locate the helicopter and its crew.

Ultimately, the missing helicopter was discovered at 9:08 a.m. on Wednesday, offering a glimmer of hope amid the ongoing search for the five missing Marines.
