Jim Mancuso, the assistant director of the Global Trade Division at Homeland Security Investigations, revealed that Iranian drones recovered on battlefields in Ukraine and across the Middle East are equipped with sensitive US communications systems and microelectronics.

Mancuso emphasized that Iran, along with China and Russia, is actively attempting to unlawfully obtain US technology.

Mancuso underscored that everyday items, including radios, can harbor the technology being targeted by adversaries.

China, Russia, and Iran’s Illicit Acquisition Efforts
An illustrative example provided by Mancuso elucidated the process whereby technology travels from the US to China, before being transported via Iranian aircraft to Iran.
Similar tactics have been observed in dealings with Russia, with sensitive US equipment being repackaged within the country to support Russian military efforts, particularly in Ukraine.
To counter these illicit activities, authorities are actively targeting these procurement networks, with HSI investigations initiated upon the discovery of US materials in unauthorized locations.
Mancuso emphasized the constant endeavor to stay ahead of adversaries, highlighting the importance of vigilance and proactive measures in safeguarding American technology and national security.
