A suspect in a shocking dognapping incident that unfolded in Los Angeles two weeks ago has been apprehended by the Los Angeles Police Department and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
The arrest of 21-year-old Sadie Slater took place in Inglewood, California, on Saturday, and she is now facing charges of robbery with a bail set at $70,000.
Suspect Arrested in High-Profile Dognapping Case
The incident occurred on January 18, involved Slater and a group driving off with a French bulldog while the owner, Ali Zacharias, desperately clung to the car hood. The entire event was captured on video by a bystander, revealing the dramatic and dangerous nature of the dognapping.
Zacharias had been having lunch outside a Whole Foods market when her French bulldog, Onyx, wandered away.
Upon noticing a woman holding Onyx and getting into a car, Zacharias approached, initially thinking it was a misunderstanding. However, as the situation escalated, she found herself standing in front of the car, attempting to prevent the dognapping.
Describing the ordeal, Zacharias recounted, “The last thing I could do is stand in front of the car. I was trying to put my body there. They drove into me until I fell on the hood. I grabbed onto the window wipers.” The vehicle sped off with Zacharias on the hood, eventually throwing her off a few blocks away, causing cuts and bruises.
