US Military Engagement Escalates as Strikes Continue on Houthi Forces in Yemen

In continuation of military action against Houthi militants in Yemen, the United States initiated a second wave of strikes on Friday night, targeting a radar facility utilized by the group.

This follows the initial assault on nearly 30 sites associated with the Houthis, undertaken with the collaboration of allies, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Bahrain, and the Netherlands.

Allied Offensive Against Houthis

The strikes come in response to Houthi aggression, particularly the firing of an anti-ship missile toward a commercial vessel in the Red Sea.

Pentagon officials disclosed that the first wave of strikes, which occurred earlier on Friday, involved an aircraft carrier, two destroyers, a cruiser, and a submarine.

These coordinated efforts from the US and its allies aimed to deter further Houthi attacks on both commercial and military shipping in the Red Sea.

The strikes targeted 28 Houthi-controlled locations in Yemen, utilizing more than 150 bombs and missiles. Fighter jets launched raids from the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D Eisenhower, along with contributions from the USS Gravely, the USS Mason, and the USS Philippine Sea.

While the initial strikes involved a coalition effort, the second round was carried out solely by the Americans from a US Navy ship.

The international community had previously warned of additional military actions if the Houthi rebels persisted in their drone and missile attacks on vessels in the Red Sea.
