Alaska SNAP Beneficiaries Set to Receive Generous January Benefits of Up to $3,487 in Five Days

Alaska’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial support to households across the state, with payment amounts varying based on regions and household sizes.

Divided into three regions—Rural I, Rural II, and Urban—each region has specific maximum monthly payments.

Payment Tiers for ‘Rural I’ Region and Household Sizes

In the “Rural I” region, eligible households experience varying maximum payments. For a one-person household, the maximum payment is $477. A household of four can receive up to $1,591, and for a household of eight, the maximum payment is $2,865. An additional $368 is added for each extra member.

For “Rural II” households, the maximum payments differ, with amounts of $581 for one, $1,937 for four, and $3,487 for eight. Similar to Rural I, an extra $436 is added for each additional member.

In the “Urban” region, households encounter maximum payments of $374 for one, $1,248 for four, and $2,246 for eight. Beyond eight members, the program includes a maximum of $281 for each additional member.

As of fiscal year 2024, cost-of-living adjustments have been made, leading to increased SNAP benefit amounts for all states and territories. These adjustments aim to address the rising costs associated with daily living.

Approximately 12% of Alaska’s population, totaling 92,100 individuals, receive food stamps. On average, each Alaskan household member receives $271 per month in SNAP benefits.
