Recent federal data reveals an alarming surge in respiratory illness activity across the United States, with seventeen states experiencing “high” or “very high” levels of such cases.
As COVID-19 and flu hospitalizations rise, health authorities closely monitor the situation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports a concerning increase in weekly COVID-19 hospitalizations, reaching levels not seen since February.
COVID-19 and Flu Hospitalizations Surge
The latest CDC data indicates a continuous rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations for the fifth consecutive week, with 23,432 hospitalizations reported for the week ending December 9.

Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Pennsylvania, for instance, has run out of beds, emphasizing the strain on healthcare systems.
Other pediatric hospitals face similar challenges, contributing to a capacity crunch exacerbated by the lingering effects of the pandemic.
