In a tragic case that captured national attention, Dawn Elaine Coleman, a 41-year-old woman from Shreveport, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for her role in the death of 5-year-old Cairo Ammar Jordan.
The young boy’s lifeless body was discovered in a suitcase in a wooded area in rural southern Indiana last year, leading to a heart-wrenching investigation and legal proceedings.

A Washington County judge handed down the sentence on Tuesday, sending Coleman to 30 years with five years suspended to probation.
Coleman had previously pleaded guilty to a Level 1 felony charge of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with Cairo’s tragic death.
Under Indiana law, she must serve more than 18 years, representing 75% of her sentence.
Cairo’s lifeless body was found inside a suitcase approximately 35 miles northwest of Louisville, Kentucky, in April 2022. An autopsy revealed that the 5-year-old had succumbed to vomiting and diarrhea, leading to severe dehydration, as detailed by the Indiana State Police.

A felony murder arrest warrant was issued for Anderson in November 2022. Authorities are actively seeking her in connection with the ongoing investigation.
