Maryanne Trump Barry, Eldest Sister of Former President, Passes Away at 86

Maryanne Trump Barry, the older sister of former President Donald J. Trump, passed away at the age of 86 in her home on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

The news of her death, confirmed by three anonymous sources, marked the end of a complex relationship that oscillated between protection and criticism throughout their lives.

Maryanne Trump’s Revelations and the Sibling Dynamic

A former federal judge in New Jersey, Maryanne Trump Barry’s legal career owed some credit to Roy M. Cohn, President Ronald Reagan’s fixer, who played a role in her appointment. She retired in 2019 amid a court investigation triggered by The New York Times’ scrutiny of the Trump family’s tax practices.

Known for her influence on Donald Trump, especially in the early years of his presidency, their relationship strained in the final year when Mary L. Trump, their niece, released recordings of Judge Barry speaking critically about the president.

The recordings, part of Mary Trump’s book “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man” (2020), unveiled a side of the sibling dynamic seldom seen by the public.

Maryanne Trump Barry, the older sister of former President Donald J. Trump, passed away at the age of 86 in her home on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

A Republican, Judge Barry was appointed to the District Court in New Jersey in 1983 by President Reagan and later elevated to the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit by President Bill Clinton in 1993.

Barry’s retirement in 2019, prompted by revelations about the Trump family’s questionable tax practices, sidestepped the court investigation, as retired judges are exempt from judicial conduct rules.

The audio recordings made by Mary Trump revealed Judge Barry’s scathing remarks about her brother, going beyond the critiques outlined in the book.

Her death marks the end of a chapter in the Trump family saga, leaving behind a legacy that encompasses both legal accomplishments and the complexities of familial relationships.
