Russian Navy Stumbles: Ukraine’s Precision Strike Takes Out New Warship

Ukraine boldly struck a newly constructed Russian warship, showcasing resilience and determination to challenge Russian dominance in the Black Sea.

The targeted vessel, the Askold Project 22800 Karakurt-class corvette, suffered substantial damage in a recent strike launched by Ukrainian forces.

Ukrainian Forces Successfully Strike Russian Vessels

Analysts believe that this successful attack will likely render the warship inoperable for the foreseeable future, delivering a significant blow to Russia’s naval capabilities. This latest strike is part of a series of effective Ukrainian assaults on Russian vessels in the Black Sea.

Ukrainian forces, aiming to make the occupied Crimean peninsula untenable for Russia, have consistently damaged or destroyed several Black Sea Fleet ships. Notably, the strike on the Askold occurred before the warship could even be commissioned, showcasing Ukraine’s proactive approach to disrupting Russian military plans.

The attack carried out on November 4, employed Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG missiles, air-launched cruise missiles with an impressive 155-mile range. Provided by the UK and France, these missiles have proven highly effective in Ukraine’s military strategy since their deployment in mid-May.

Satellite images clearly depict significant damage to the Askold, validating analysts’ predictions that the vessel is likely out of operation for the foreseeable future.

Ukraine’s military prowess extends beyond missile strikes, as the country has also incorporated unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and naval drone boats armed with explosives to harass and attack Russian ships. Sevastopol, the port city housing the Black Sea Fleet, and the strategic Kerch Bridge have become major targets for Ukraine’s USV force.

Successful attacks on various Russian vessels, including the Ropucha-class landing ship Olenegorsky Gornyak, underscore Ukraine’s steadfast commitment to challenging Russian dominance in the region.

As Ukraine employs a diverse range of tactics to counter Russian forces, the geopolitical landscape in the Black Sea remains dynamic and is closely monitored by international observers. The evolving situation highlights Ukraine’s determination to safeguard its interests and challenge Russia’s influence in this strategically vital region.
