A startling development occurred earlier this month when a resident of Las Vegas was charged federally for allegedly threatening to kidnap, attack, or murder a US senator.

John Anthony Miller, a 43-year-old resident of Las Vegas, was arrested on October 26, 2023, following a series of threatening voicemails left for the senator’s office between October 11 and October 19.

Shocking Allegations Against Las Vegas Man

According to a criminal complaint filed by the Department of Justice, Miller’s threats escalated on October 17 when he explicitly menaced the unnamed senator with the intention of impeding, intimidating, or interfering with her duties.

The voicemails, as detailed in the complaint, contained not only explicit language but also disturbing threats.

The situation took a troubling turn on October 18 when Miller attempted to enter the Lloyd D. George Courthouse in Las Vegas, declaring his intention to see the U.S. senator. He refused to cooperate with court security personnel and was subsequently denied entry, prompting him to vent his frustrations through loud and profanity-laden outbursts.

A startling development occurred earlier this month when a resident of Las Vegas was charged federally for allegedly threatening to kidnap, attack, or murder a US senator.

Miller’s menacing behavior continued with further voicemails on October 19, where he insinuated that the senator’s family might have connections with Israeli settlers and accused her of complicity in crimes against Palestinians in the West Bank. He directed a barrage of profanities and threats toward the senator.

On October 26, federal authorities arrested John Anthony Miller, who now faces a single count of threatening a federal official. A spokesperson for the senator involved stated, “Threats against public officials should be taken seriously,” expressing trust in the U.S. Attorney’s office and federal law enforcement to handle the matter appropriately.

Miller is scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Elayna J. Youchah on November 13, 2023, where he will face the consequences of his alleged threats against the U.S. senator.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of taking threats against public officials seriously and the need to ensure their safety in the line of duty.
