The US Navy warship USS Carney found itself at the forefront of a nine-hour-long onslaught near the Yemeni coast last Thursday.
In the Northern Red Sea, a ship successfully intercepted 15 drones and four cruise missiles launched by Houthi militants, backed by Iran, which were menacingly aimed at Israel. Thankfully, no one on the ship was injured, and civilians on the ground remained unharmed.
Increased Aggression Towards US Navy in the Area
Initially, the Defense Department disclosed that the USS Carney had successfully taken down ‘several’ drones and three land attack cruise missiles. However, subsequent revelations have uncovered the full extent of the attack, with the warship engaged in an intense defense against the deluge of incoming threats.
This incident marked the fourth in a series of three days of escalated aggression against US troops in the region, highlighting the ever-mounting tensions in the Middle East. The Defense Department clarified that the drones and cruise missiles were thwarted using the highly effective SM-2 surface-to-air missiles.
It is worth noting that while the Iran-backed Houthi militants had their sights set on Israel, US officials believe that the missiles taken down over the water were not aimed at the USS Carney. Instead, the situation underscores the Houthi terrorist group’s intention to join the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Al Tanf Garrison Base Drone Attacks
In a further display of aggression, the Al Tanf Garrison military base in Syria, housing American troops, came under attack from two drones on Wednesday.
One drone was successfully neutralized, while the other managed to impact the base before joint action by US and coalition forces.
Additionally, the Conoco airfield reported an attack, which has been attributed to the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, another Iran-backed group. US officials are yet to confirm the specifics of this strike.
The week’s events also saw troops at the al-Asad airbase in Iraq intercepting three drones, while to the north, troops at the al-Harir Air Base intercepted two more. Tragically, a contractor at the al-Asad airbase lost his life to a heart attack while taking shelter amidst reports of an impending attack.
These recent events underscore the volatile and increasingly complex situation in the Middle East, leaving governments and military personnel on high alert as they work to maintain regional stability.
