Texas SNAP Benefit Boost: $1,691 Payments Coming in Two Weeks

Texas is preparing to provide assistance to qualified households in two weeks, so Texans who depend on SNAP benefits will soon receive their November payments.

These payments are a vital lifeline for many, ensuring access to nutritious food for those in need.

Texas SNAP Benefit Calculation

The SNAP benefit amounts in Texas are calculated based on household size, with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission overseeing the distribution.

Single-person households are set to receive $281, while larger families, such as eight-member households, will get up to $1,691. For every additional member beyond eight, an extra $211 is granted to provide equitable support.

Eligibility for these benefits is determined by household income. A single-person household must have a monthly income of no more than $1,869 to qualify, while a five-person household cannot exceed $4,465 per month.

SNAP payments in Texas are scheduled to be disbursed over the first 10 business days of each month. For November, recipients can expect their payments to begin on November 1, with the exact date contingent on their eligibility determination group number.

These SNAP payments are loaded onto a Lone Star Card, functioning as an electronic benefits transfer card. The funds are automatically deposited onto the card on the designated issuance date, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for recipients.

Texas also enforces work rules for SNAP recipients between the ages of 16 and 59. To maintain their eligibility, participants must either be employed, actively seeking employment, or engaged in an approved work program. Leaving a job without good reason can result in disqualification.

The SNAP program, initiated in 1964 through the Food Stamp Act as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society programs, remains a critical tool in enhancing the nutrition of low-income individuals and families.
