A disturbing case of sexual abuse in Babylon, New York, has come to a close as former high school teacher Timothy Harrison pleads guilty to endangering the welfare of a child.
Harrison, 48, was accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student nearly a decade ago. This shocking revelation has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office to take swift action.
New York District Attorney’s Condemnation
District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney expressed his grave concerns about the case, emphasizing that Harrison had betrayed his role as an educator and exploited a vulnerable teenager.
Under the terms of the guilty plea, Harrison is required to surrender his teaching license, ensuring he can no longer harm students with his predatory behavior.
The investigation revealed that between September and November 2013, Harrison engaged in inappropriate behavior with the young victim. He sent flirtatious text messages, provided alcohol, and had sexual intercourse and oral sexual conduct with her at his residence in Oak Beach.

Victim’s Inspiring Bravery
Despite the years that had passed, the victim displayed tremendous courage by reporting the abuse to Babylon High School in 2021 before seeking assistance from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Special Victim Section.
Harrison’s arrest followed on March 3, 2022, and on a recent Friday, he appeared before Suffolk County Court Judge Karen M. Wilutis to plead guilty to endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. His sentencing is scheduled for November 9, 2023, when he will face the consequences of his actions.
District Attorney Tierney used this opportunity to urge anyone who has experienced sexual abuse to come forward and report such crimes, emphasizing that speaking out can protect others from predators like Harrison.
The bravery of the victim in this case serves as an inspiration for others to seek justice, regardless of how much time has passed since the abuse occurred.
As this case comes to a close, it serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding the well-being of students and the need for vigilance in preventing such heinous acts from occurring within our educational institutions.
