Maryland, authorities have added more charges against a man accused of sexually assaulting children at an unlicensed daycare facility.

The accused, 57-year-old Roberto Medina, now faces a litany of serious sex crimes, including first-degree rape, second-degree rape, and third-degree sex offense. Additionally, he has been charged with fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault.

Maryland Legal Proceedings and Community Responses

The alleged sexual assaults are reported to have occurred between 2005 and 2015 at an unlicensed daycare in Annapolis. Shockingly, the first victim came forward only in March 2019, revealing that she was just five years old when Medina assaulted her.

According to court documents, Medina would reportedly bring the young victim into a room, lock the door, and forcibly assault her on multiple occasions. The victim also disclosed that Medina secretly exposed her to pornographic videos on his cellphone, leaving her traumatized.

The Annapolis Police Department was alerted to a second victim’s accusations in July when a 14-year-old disclosed that she had been assaulted by Medina when she was just six years old. The daycare was reportedly run by a woman named Betty, who was identified as Medina’s wife.

Maryland, authorities have added more charges against a man accused of sexually assaulting children at an unlicensed daycare facility.

Betty had been caring for children at the facility for approximately 16 years, from 2003 to 2019. However, the police believe she was unaware of the alleged sex crimes.

In August, a third victim came forward, recounting horrifying experiences of abuse at the hands of the suspect when she was eight years old in 2005. Court documents revealed that Medina assaulted this victim repeatedly, five days a week, after school, for an entire year while she was under Betty’s care.

The revelations, in this case, are deeply distressing, highlighting the importance of thorough background checks and regular oversight for all daycare facilities.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to Roberto Medina or Betty’s daycare to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

Detective Nancy Moore of the Annapolis Police Department can be reached at 410-693-3635. The community stands united in seeking justice for these innocent victims and ensuring the safety of all children in daycare settings.
