A recent photograph purportedly showing Russian General Sergei Surovikin was shared on social media, causing the international community to be both intrigued and perplexed. 

This unexpected development comes after Surovikin disappeared from public view following an attempted mutiny by the Wagner military group in June.

Ksenia Sobchak, a well-known Russian media personality, posted the image to social media, claiming that the general is alive, healthy, and in Moscow with his family. 

However, doubts remain regarding the photographer’s integrity and its release’s motivations.

The disappearance of General Sergei Surovikin from public life is veiled in mystery. 

After the failed conflict by the infamous Wagner mercenary group, various media outlets reported that Surovikin had lost favor with the Kremlin and was being investigated for potential complicity in the mutiny. 

This event signaled a significant departure from his prominent position within the Russian military.

RIA reported that Surovikin had been removed as chief of the air force, with his deputy Viktor Afzalov provisionally assuming his duties. 

The sudden change in leadership suggested a potential conflict between Surovikin and the Kremlin, raising doubts about the real reasons for his removal.

Before his mysterious departure, Surovikin was temporarily responsible for directing Moscow’s military efforts in Ukraine.

Surovikin was praised by Prigozhin, who described him as “a man who is not afraid of responsibility.”

This endorsement further complicates the narrative surrounding Surovikin’s putative decline from grace.

The picture portrays a male wearing eyeglasses and a cap strolling alongside a woman matching Surovikin’s wife, Anna.

At the same time, Ksenia Sobchak asserts that the general is alive and well, the image’s integrity remains in doubt.
