On Monday, President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden embarked on a visit to a District of Columbia public middle school, infused with a sense of anticipation as they warmly greeted students stepping into a new school year.

Their destination was Eliot-Hine Middle School, a prominent educational institution situated to the east of the iconic US Capitol.

First Lady’s Education Campaign Takes Flight

The purpose behind this visit was to commemorate the commencement of the 2023-24 school year in the District of Columbia.

The occasion marked the initiation of a series of impactful back-to-school engagements for the first lady.

In the days following, she was slated to travel to the Midwest, where she would embark on a mission to celebrate educators and draw attention to the pressing matter of mental health support for students.

A seasoned teacher herself, Jill Biden’s dedication to education extended beyond the confines of the White House, making her the first ever first lady to maintain her teaching career while her husband held the presidency.

Her commitment found expression at Northern Virginia Community College, where she continued to impart English and writing lessons, a role she had upheld during the tenure of President Barack Obama, when her husband served as vice president.
