Public Student Loan Forgiveness Eligibility and Qualifications

You can be eligible for the US Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program if you work for a government agency or non-profit.

After you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under an approved repayment plan while working full-time for an eligible company, this program will forgive the remaining debt on your Direct Loans.

PSLF Tool Simplifies Student Loan Forgiveness Application

You can easily apply for PSLF by submitting a PSLF form through the PSLF Help Tool, which streamlines the procedure.

You can use the PSLF Help Tool to create and sign your PSLF form, check to see whether your employer is already included in the employer database, seek a review of your employer’s eligibility if it isn’t, and get certification and signatures from your employer electronically.

The tool can produce a PSLF form for manual signing and submission to the PSLF servicer if electronic submission is not possible.

You must fulfill a number of requirements in order to be eligible for PSLF, including working full-time for a US federal, state, local, or tribal government or a qualifying not-for-profit organization,

Having direct paying back your loans using an income-driven repayment plan or a 10-year Standard Repayment Plan; and making a total of 120 qualifying monthly payments, which do not have to be consecutive.

You can be eligible for the US Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program if you work for a government agency or non-profit.

William Ford Federal Direct Loan Program accepts loans that are obtained through it.

Being qualified for PSLF, a Direct PLUS loan given to a parent borrower cannot be repaid using a qualifying repayment plan other than the 10-year standard repayment plan or a plan with payments that are at least as high as the 10-year standard plan.

But if it is initially combined into a Direct Consolidation Loan, it might qualify for PSLF. If you combine your Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) and Perkins loans into a single Direct Consolidation Loan, you can be eligible for PSLF.
