Collaborative Training Initiatives in Response to the Russian Invasion

Multiple ongoing training programs have been established to sustain the Ukrainian military, catering to a wide range of needs. These programs encompass basic soldiering courses for inexperienced recruits as well as advanced simulations of combined arms warfare designed for seasoned veterans.

According to officials from the United States Department of Defense, there are presently over 6,000 Ukrainian troops undergoing training across approximately 40 different locations. These troops are engaged in 65 distinct courses offered in 33 countries spanning three continents. It is evident that the training and backing of Ukraine in its quest for independence is a globally coordinated endeavor.

The United States military has taken a leading role in training Ukrainian forces in advanced warfighting techniques, particularly in the realm of combined arms warfare. The mastery of contemporary tactics and operational planning is vital for the Ukrainian military if they are to liberate their nation and repel the Russian forces.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley recently informed journalists, “Since the initiation of the conflict, the United States has provided training to more than 11,000 Ukrainian individuals in combined arms maneuver and staff training. As a result of this training effort, 12 maneuver battalions and nearly 5,000 operators are currently engaged in combat, supported by their combined arms staff.”

NATO has also played a significant role in training Ukraine’s heavy brigades, which have yet to actively participate in combat operations.

The British-led training program spans approximately five weeks and covers various areas such as marksmanship, fieldcraft, small unit tactics, and first aid.

On the one-year anniversary of Operation Interflex, the British Ministry of Defense acknowledged the extraordinary circumstances that have prompted numerous ordinary Ukrainians to undertake training in the fields and forests of the United Kingdom.

“The determination and resilience exhibited by Ukrainian recruits from diverse backgrounds, who have arrived on British soil to train alongside our British and international forces, is truly humbling,” commented UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace.

As of early May, the British Military had provided basic soldiering training to over 14,000 Ukrainian recruits.
