In light of her father’s federal indictment last week, Ivanka Trump, daughter of former President Donald Trump, broke her Twitter silence on Sunday.

Robert Collins, a political expert and professor at Dillard University, said in an interview with Newsweek on Sunday that it may be hurtful” if Ivanka doesn’t directly address her father’s criminal charge.

It is usually advantageous for the defendant in any criminal prosecution involving a politician to be able to show family support.

It enhances their reputation among voters and possible jurors. Ivanka’s silence is therefore cruel, Collins declared.

Yet, “I think they are more concerned on making sure their own legal matters [are] in line than they are with her father’s legal difficulties because Ivanka and her husband might be under scrutiny shortly for their contacts with Saudi Arabia.”

Kushner’s connections to Saudi Arabia have lately been under increased investigation after The Washington Post reported in February that $2 billion from a sovereign wealth fund headed by the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was given to Kushner’s Affinity Fund.

In comparison to past administrations, the Trump administration developed tighter ties with the Middle Eastern nation, which frequently drew criticism owing to a variety of Saudi Arabia-related scandals.
