Securing the Future of EV Charging: White House Seeks Tesla Support

In exchange for carrying the US’s own fast-charging standard for electric vehicles, the Biden administration is allowing federal subsidies for Tesla charging stations.

The North American Charging Standard (NACS), as Tesla dubbed it last year, will be eligible for billions of dollars in federal subsidies, the White House announced on Friday, June 9.

Biden Administration Requires Tesla Charging Stations

The US government is powerless to stop charging ports from becoming the norm as conventional automakers like Ford and GM adopt them.

The administration’s $7.5 billion proposal to create new, high-speed charging stations across 7,500 miles of the country’s busiest roadways was officially announced by the White House for the first time.

Musk publishes the NACS design and invited competing manufacturers to create EVs that use Tesla’s charging connector.

The White House applauds the decision but says nothing about Tesla’s involvement in its plans for charging infrastructure.
