Plans for Meta, a text-based social network aiming to rival Twitter, have been made available to personnel.
Users might be able to follow accounts on Instagram, Meta’s image-sharing application, that they already follow.
Meta Text-Based Social Network to Challenge Twitter
They may also be able to draw followers from decentralized networks like Mastodon thanks to it.
A Meta official confirmed to the BBC that the platform was still under development.
Meta’s chief product officer, Chris Cox, stated that platform development was in progress. The tech juggernaut plans to deploy it soon, though no precise release date was given.
Some predict it might happen as soon as the end of June.
Internal staff members may have seen online screenshots that gave them an idea of how the app might look.
Company sources have notified the BBC that these screenshots were actually stolen.
If this is the case, anyone who has used Twitter will recognize the design of this new site.
Unlike BlueSky or Mastodon, the text-based network known as P92 may end up being more of a Twitter rival.

Challenging Twitter’s Dominance
It can be difficult to build a community from scratch on a new social network, even though both have attracted users who are sick of Twitter.
Instagram nevertheless has a huge user base. Even though its user counts can no longer be independently verified, Meta asserts to have about two billion users, far more than the estimated 300 million users of Twitter.
P92 (which, when it comes, will undoubtedly have a sexier title) will swiftly overtake its more established competition in size if only 25% of Instagram users can be convinced to use it.
Although some businesses might not be as considerate, Meta asserts that it finds “inspiration” from them. For instance, Facebook Stories and Instagram Reels have a striking similarity to TikTok.
