The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program provides a monthly benefit to adults and children with a disability or who are blind and have limited resources.
Non-disabled seniors 65 and older who meet the financial requirements are also eligible for SSI payments.
Apply For SSI Program While Receiving Retirement Benefits
Even if you are already receiving Social Security Disability Insurance or retirement benefits, the Social Security Administration states that you may be eligible for SSI monthly payments.
SSI is a federally funded program that is not supported by Social Security taxes. It provides monthly payments to cover essential necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter.
The base sum varies based on the recipient’s living situation and income, so not everyone receives the same amount. If your state augments SSI payments, you may receive more.
Alternatively, your benefits may be reduced if you have income from other sources, such as wages, pensions, or Social Security. You may receive less if someone else pays your household expenses or if you reside with a spouse who contributes to the household income.
