A 23-year-old Texas man was arrested for shooting his girlfriend after she told him she would not have his child.
Adam Byrd was arrested on Thursday and charged with one count of murder in the death of Jade Alyssa Alvarez, 22, according to court documents reviewed by Law&Crime.
Texas Police Response To Gunshot Allegation
According to a report, San Antonio Police Department officers responded to a reported gunshot in the 1000 block of Capitol Avenue at approximately 6:30 a.m. on April 6.
A female adult, subsequently identified as Alvarez, was reportedly discovered unresponsive in the street by a patrolling officer in the area. She was pronounced dead at the scene after presumably receiving multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators were able to locate a female witness who, according to reports, verified Alvarez’s relationship with Byrd and stated that she had been with Alvarez the night before the shooting.
The witness also informed police that Alvarez had used the witness’s cellphone to communicate with Byrd the night before the shooting. Byrd then requested that the witness leave off Alvarez at the Capitol Avenue location between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Byrd Confessed To Aggravated Robbery
On April 1, according to investigators, Byrd allegedly committed two counts of aggravated larceny in Bexar County, for which he was wanted on an active warrant.
On April 12, SAPD officers located Byrd arrested him on the warrant for aggravated larceny and transported him to the station for questioning.
During an interview with detectives, Byrd allegedly confessed to both the aggravated robbery and the murder of Alvarez, stating that he used the same firearm for both offenses.
Byrd allegedly told detectives that he encountered Alvarez on Capitol Avenue, where a heated argument ensued.
According to Byrd, they were arguing because he told Alvarez he wanted to have a child with her, but she responded that she did not want to have a child with him.
Shortly after she disclosed her emotions, Byrd allegedly shot her multiple times and then fled the scene. At this time, Byrd is being held in the Bexar County Jail on a total surety of $400,000.
