UK man pushed his pregnant wife off Arthur’s Seat, causing her death

A UK court found a man guilty of murdering his pregnant wife and child on Thursday, and he was given a life sentence.

In September 2021, Kashif Anwar, age 29, murdered his wife, Fawziyah Javed, age 31, by pushing her off of the precipitous rock face of Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh while the two were out hiking. Fawziyah Javed fell approximately 50 feet to her death.

UK Court Rejected Anwar’s Defense

After a week-long trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, the jury rejected Anwar’s defense that his wife fell after he accidentally bumped into her and found him guilty of murdering his wife and her 17-week-old unborn child.

Anwar, a native of a town near Leeds, England, was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 20 years.

Anwar was found guilty of “a wicked crime” by the judge presiding over his trial, Lord Beckett, and given an automatic life sentence.

“You showed no regret and made no effort to save her,” the judge said, adding that Javed should have expected her husband’s protection.

A UK court found a man guilty of murdering his pregnant wife and child on Thursday, and he was given a life sentence.

Javed reportedly did not die instantly after falling and was able to tell people that her husband pushed her before she died at the scene.

When police officer Rhiannon Clutton arrived, Javed told her that she was pushed when she attempted to end their relationship.

“She was writhing in pain, but she was able to respond to my questions,” Clutton recalled, adding that Javed told her that his sister had been pushed after she told Anwar she wanted to end their marriage.

The mother of Javed asserted that shortly after her only daughter married Anwar on Christmas 2020, she began to complain about her husband’s abusive behavior and was contemplating leaving the relationship.

According to The Independent, Javed’s mother stated in a statement that “there are no words to describe the depth of pain and grief.” There are no words in the English dictionary that are sufficiently profound.
