New York Suspect Admits Sexual Assault

In February, 37-year-old Jose Carabantes Pineda pled guilty to a criminal sexual act of the first degree.

According to a press release issued by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, on March 20, 2021, Carabantes Pineda drove the 10-year-old victim to a Big Lots parking lot in Riverhead.

A passerby heard the child’s cries and rapped on the fogged-up, tinted windows.

The man then dialed 911, providing dispatchers with information about the fleeing vehicle, and followed it.

Carabantes Pineda drove to his residence, transferred the minor to another vehicle, and then drove around.

Carabantes Pineda allegedly tried to train the child to tell police that she was crying because he had sideswiped a vehicle, which was discovered by investigators after he had fled the scene in another vehicle.

Carabantes Pineda was apprehended by the Riverhead police within minutes of his second return to his home.

During the investigation, detectives discovered that Carabantes Pineda had sexually abused the child prior to the incident for months.

Carabantes Pineda pled guilty to a criminal sexual act of the first degree on February 24, 2023.
