Texas grandmother shot and killed a robber who tried to steal her family’s food truck

A Texas grandmother shot and killed an armed robber who attempted to rob her food truck because her gun jammed.

Tuesday at 1 p.m., Keshondra Howard Turner, 53, was cooking soul food inside the “Elite Eats and Cold Treats” truck in a parking lot in Houston. A 23-year-old man drove up alongside the truck about an hour later.

The man asked what was on the menu, but when Turner showed him, he suddenly pulled out a handgun, demanded cash, and exited his truck, the station reported, citing Houston police Lieutenant Bryan Bui.

The would-be robber forced open the window of the food truck, placed his weapon inside, and attempted to fire Turner. Turner, who is licensed to carry a handgun, drew her own weapon and shot the man multiple times when the gun jammed.

The man staggered away before collapsing approximately 50 feet from the truck, where he was pronounced dead by authorities. Following the shooting, Turner suffered a panic attack and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police Determined Incident As Self-Defense

The authorities reported that they did not file charges against Turner, but they will collect evidence and present it to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

The robber’s pickup truck is surrounded by crime scene tape after Turner fatally shot him in self-defense.

Turner’s son, Derick Howard, attributed his mother’s survival to divine intervention. he’s a Godly woman, and that’s why the gun jammed because God jammed it. Additionally, Howard stated that his mother would never have opened fire unless she had no other option.

Turner attempted to prevent the robbery by closing the window of the food truck, but the thief forced it open and placed a gun inside.

Turner and her family started their soul food takeout business three years ago and ran it without incident until Tuesday from a parking lot at South Main Street and Fondren Road in southwest Houston.
