Ron DeSantis‘ signature anti-woke speech and avoidance of polls and leaks helped him defeat Gavin Newsom in his home state of California.
Sunday’s remarks by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis targeted laws imposed by California and other liberal states, which, according to DeSantis, have resulted in the migration of inhabitants to the Sunshine State.
Gov. Gavin Newsom Faces Criticism
In recent years, with the ascent of DeSantis to national prominence, Newsom has explicitly targeted Florida. Two days after proclaiming a state of emergency in the midst of a 17-foot snowfall, the Democratic governor of California was slammed for going for ‘personal travel’ on Friday.
DeSantis’ statewide book promotion tour, which included a stop in California, has only stoked anticipation that he may announce his presidential bid shortly. The governor of Florida will fly to Iowa, the state holding the nation’s first primary, on Friday.
DeSantis’s opportunity to set out his ‘blueprint for America’ is a major emphasis of the tour and the ideal prelude to a presidential candidacy announcement.
The Florida governor was in Simi Valley to promote his new book The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Plan for America’s Restoration at the Ronald Reagan library.
He arrived with his wife, Florida’s first lady Casey DeSantis, and their two eldest children, Madison, 6, and Mason, 4, on Sunday afternoon. Mamie, their youngest child, was not present.

Ron DeSantis Targeted California Regulations
Instead of catering to ‘woke’ institutions and addressing rising crime, DeSantis centered his speech on typical pillars of a presidential program, such as education and parental rights.
DeSantis constantly pointed to California’s regulations when discussing his conflict with Disney and how the Golden State handled the ‘woke’ corporation differently than he did in Florida.
They should not inform second-graders that they may choose their gender, as this is false. And that will never happen in the state of Florida,’ DeSantis vowed to a resounding round of applause.
The Reedy Creek Improvement District, which encompasses Walt Disney World near Orlando, was stripped of its tax-exempt, self-governing status by a measure approved by the governor last week.
DeSantis also attributed a massive portion of his success to his team, noting that he ran a tight ship that prevented leaks and did not focus overly on polling.
This strategy, according to DeSantis, helped him to increase his margin of victory over Republican-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist from 32,000 votes or 0.4 percent in 2018 to an astounding 1.5 million votes in 2022.
