Researchers are looking for participants for the Central Iowa Basic Income Pilot, the state’s first basic income study.
A $500 monthly pilot program will be implemented by the government and start this spring. Located in Rochester, New York. According to Black Community Focus Found, although the specifics are still being worked out, 175 people will benefit from this for an entire year.
Which States Will Provide Basic Income Program?
More than a hundred low-income families will receive $500 per month for 24 months as part of the pilot program, which is funded by $2.5 million in public and private funding, to help with the cost of basic necessities like food, rent, utilities, health care, and child care.
A similar program will be implemented in Iowa as well. For a period of two years, 110 people will each get a $500 payment each month to cover their essential expenses. The application window closes on February 27.
With a monthly payment of $200 to $400, the program in Massachusetts will assist 600 to 700 people. In California, $500 will be made available for a while. There will be similar programs in a number of cities, including Alaska, Arizona, Virginia, Atlanta, Chicago, and Columbia.
The guaranteed cash assistance program’s objective, according to Ashley Ezzio, senior project coordinator at The Tom and Ruth Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement, which is in charge of the study, is to determine whether giving residents a monthly check that has no limitations or conditions is an effective way to fight poverty.

How To Apply?
Candidates must be at least 18 years old, reside in Polk, Dallas, or Warren County, have a dependent under the age of 25 living with them, and have a household income below 60% of the area median income, which is $59,190 per year for a family of four.
No bank account, Social Security number, or tax identification number is required for applicants to qualify. Per household, only one application is required. Additionally, English, Spanish, Pashto, Burmese, and Swahili are among the five languages into which the application has been translated.
For 24 months, payments will be received around the 15th of each month. On May 15, the first payments will be made.
Participants in the program are exempt from filing additional income taxes because the Internal Revenue Service views the program as a charitable donation. The application period is from February 17 to February 27.
The 110 chosen participants will receive notification from The Harkin Institute coordinators between March 7 and March 14 via phone, email, letter, and/or text message. Those who participate are chosen at random.
A control group of 140 candidates will also be chosen. They won’t get the $500, but they will be asked to take part in a regular survey instead. The individuals chosen to take part in this group will be informed by researchers from Des Moines University. People who have not been chosen receive no notifications. Participants will receive a debit card that has $500 added to it each month.
