Social Security update: Who will receive two checks in March?

The first of the two checks for recipients of Social Security payments will be issued in just 12 days, on March 1.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive checks totaling $914 each, for a total payment of $1,828 in March, with the second payment being sent on March 31.

When Will You Get Your Check?

People who receive two paychecks in a month can expect to receive no checks the following month from the administration. However, it guarantees that recipients continue to get 12 paychecks annually.

Three additional months in 2023 see the double payments. Because the first of the month falls on a weekend or a federal holiday in July, October, and January 2024, these months will be June, September, and December.

Each check for eligible couples will be worth $1,371. A monthly payment of $458 is given to essential people or people who live with someone receiving SSI as a caregiver. Each year, the Social Security Administration adjusts the check amount to reflect inflation and the cost of living.

If you received Social Security benefits prior to May 1997 or are receiving both Social Security and SSI, your Social Security payment will be made on March 3 and your SSI payments will be made on March 1 and March 31. (instead of a check at the beginning of April).

Due to a glitch in the payment schedule, SSI recipients receive two payments in the months of March, June, September, and December but none in the months of January, April, July, and October. When the first of the month falls on a weekend or a holiday, this occurs. The added sum can be viewed as a payment advance for the following month.

The SSA recommends waiting three extra mailing days if you don’t receive your payment by the scheduled date before contacting Social Security. If you have a direct deposit, you can anticipate receiving your payment on the anticipated date, though your bank’s policies may apply.
