Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced the start of the second phase of relief payments called the Chicago Resiliency 2.0. According to local officials, the payoff will go to up to 7,000 domestic workers and 10,000 illegal immigrants.
The funds are intended to assist persons who did not get federal stimulus checks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chicago Relief Payments Requirements
“Care workers are the backbone of our economy – they make all other work possible.” Mayor Lightfoot remarked.
- Domestic workers or undocumented citizens must apply.
- They must be at least 18 years old.
- They must be from Chicago.
- Their household income must be equal to or less than 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.
- A domestic worker is someone who has been paid to perform services in another person’s house within the last 12 months.
It covers jobs like childcare and housekeeping. For a family of three, the income requirement is $69,090. According to officials, two members of the same household can apply for the money. Americans will be notified within 30 days after submitting their application if they will get the check.

California Helps Homeowners
Meanwhile, throughout the pandemic, the California Mortgage Relief program is aiding thousands of distressed homeowners with delayed mortgage payments.
According to an announcement made by officials on Tuesday, three new groups of people will be eligible for assistance: homeowners whose mortgages had a “partial claim” or deferral, people who missed a second mortgage payment after June 2022, and people whose primary residence consists of up to four units.
Also, homeowners who have already received state assistance would be eligible. Thus far, about 10,500 households have received an average of $28,137, totaling a little under $300 million.
Texas Energy Assistance Program
Furthermore, cash-strapped Texans are getting help with their power bills as they crank up their furnaces to combat the harsh weather.
The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) can assist homeowners and renters with their energy expenditures.
According to a press release, a program upgrade will also allow participants to receive future payouts of up to $2,400.
The TDHCA dedicated an additional $48 million to this program in order to boost its efforts.
