Social Security update: Who will receive payments up to $914 this month?

On Wednesday, Social Security recipients will get their first Supplemental Security Income payments for 2023.

This SSI payment, which will be worth $914 this year, is from the Social Security Administration and is intended to assist elderly, blind, and disabled persons who have little or no income of their own.

According to the SSA, these monthly payments enable recipients to afford basic necessities and goods such as food and shelter.

Individual recipients will receive $914, while couples will receive $1,371 in accordance with the standard SSI calendar schedule. Payments of $458 will be made to essential individuals, who are those who live with SSI users and provide vital care.

Claimants received two December payments because January 1, 2023, was a federal holiday and fell on a Sunday. The second payment, December 30, already reflected the adjustment.

Another issue to take into account is that the COLA increase will also affect beneficiaries of the Social Security and SSDI programs.

As a reminder, SSI was created to help those over 65, as well as the blind and disabled who have little or no income.
