Apple Reality Pro VR Headset to be released within months; How much does this cost?

The device is anticipated to be unveiled in the spring, prior to the company’s WWDC conference in June.

Apple reportedly shared the headset with select software developers and provided them with a preview of the new ‘xrOS’ software to signal that the launch is imminent.

Reality Pro VR Headset Release

Predicts that following the announcement of ‘Reality Pro’ in the spring, the device will be made available for purchase in the fall.

Even so, the device’s final stages of development will impact the remainder of Apple’s 2023 product lineup. As a result of the reassignment of software engineers to the xrOS team, the next versions of iOS and macOS will feature fewer significant changes than originally anticipated.

Apple has been developing its mixed-reality headset for seven years. According to an Apple insider, the device’s original release date was 2019, but it was delayed to 2020, 2021, 2022, and finally January 2023.

In addition, no major updates are planned for Apple’s iPad, Apple Watch, or audio lines. The new iPad Pro models with OLED displays are expected to be released in 2024 and warns that the forthcoming Apple Silicon MacPro will be another letdown with the same design as its 2019 predecessor and no user-upgradable RAM.

The new device is anticipated to be pricey, with leakers currently converging on a $3,000/£2,430 price tag. In August of last year,   it would cost between $2,000 and $2,500.

Additionally, this could place it far ahead of the competition, if true. Meta and HTC Vive are the two leading companies that have released mixed-reality headsets within the past few months.

Mark Zuckerberg announced, in October 2022, the Meta Quest Pro (£1,499 / $ 1,855.91, Currys.co.uk), a mixed-reality headset that costs half as much as the anticipated Apple Reality Pro headset.

At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, HTC introduced the HTC Vive XR Elite (£1,299.99 / $ 1,609.52, Amazon.co.uk), an even more affordable mixed-reality headset than the Meta Quest Pro.

However,  Apple plans to release a second, less expensive Reality Pro model after the initial release. It suggests that the headset will utilize chips found in iPhones rather than the premium high-end chips found in the most recent MacBooks.
