Twitter apparently withdrew commuter reimbursement and food allowances in addition to the fertility perks. Coffee and snacks will still be served inside the business, though.
Previously, Twitter offered its employees lifelong coverage of up to $80,000 for costs associated with fertility treatments like egg and sperm storage, donor retrieval, surrogacy, and/or the price of adopting children.
Twitter Employee’s Fertility Benefits
As evidenced by email correspondence with the third-party provider, Carrot, fertility benefits have currently been cut in half.
The email states that beginning on January 1st of this year, Twitter employees will have access to $40,000 in coverage through their reproductive insurance.
An IVF was underway when a former Twitter employee lost her job and had to halt it soon after Elon Musk took over the company.
The social network business had previously promised to pay $24,000 for IVF in 2022 and 2023, she pointed out. It has since been revealed that a number of now-ex-Twitter employees are dealing with the same issue.
In order for IVF to be successful, it typically takes at least two or three cycles, with each cycle costing between $10,000 and $20,000.
In the meantime, Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, and his first wife Justine Musk had five children via IVF. Through IVF, he and Shivon Zilis, a Neuralink employee, also had twins.
In addition, a surrogate was used for the birth of one of his two children with Grimes. Other employee perks at Twitter have also been scaled back, including access to in-home internet and childcare for staff members’ kids.

Elon Musk Twitter Acquisition
An internal memo distributed to the remaining Twitter employees in November stated that the allowance would be evaluated over time and might be reinstated if the business’s financial situation improved.
Employee advantages including education, quarterly team outings, and training and development were lost to the staff. Employee wellness and productivity-related benefits and activities were also discontinued.
Musk also informed the remaining staff members of the company that direct messaging would be encrypted and that work was being done to introduce encrypted video and phone calls between users.
Around 50% of Twitter’s more than 7,000 employees have been laid off since Musk assumed control of the social media business on November 4, just one week after he bought it.
At the time, Musk claimed in a tweet that the laid-off employees had gotten three months of severance, while Shannon Liss-Riordan, an attorney for hundreds of Twitter employees, pointed out that no one had yet received their severance money.
Liss-Riordan stated that although they are unaware of Musk’s activities, they anticipated that severance agreements would have been sent by this point.
Following a string of unpaid payments for private chartered plane flights, office rent, and software services, Twitter is also facing additional legal actions.
